Guess Who’s Bizzack?

by Carl on Jun.09, 2009, under Etc

So, my return to blogging post isn’t even going to be full of original material… But rather, plugs for a few very near and dear projects.

Firstly, let me draw your attention to The Anti-Real World DC. I have the pleasure of being a contributing voice to this new blog whose ire is solely focused on the impending invasion by The Real World: DC cast. We’ve already had a number of features in Wonkette, Politico, and Washingtonian – but we’re not in it for the press, we’re in it basically because we get to call the RWers douchebags without consequence. Head on over for a good, sarcastic time.

On a much more serious note, my old EMS partner Kate is hiking the Michigan Shore to Shore Trail to raise awareness and money for Multiple Sclerosis (which her father has had for almost 30 years!). Please head over to their Shore To Shore Fund portal to make a donation. Any amount brings us closer to a cure, and helps Kate’s family reach their goal!

Lastly, I present to you, the Dave Matthews GPS:

Sustainable Grooving

by Carl on Mar.24, 2009, under Etc

So today, I came across a gem while cruising my RSS reader… A whole new concept I had never even considered as feasible, let alone practical. And yet after only mere moments, I was irrevocably, and utterly smitten.

My. Pet. Chicken. Dot. Com.

Oh, you think I jest… But I promise you, I have opened my eyes and my heart to the world of personal poultry preservation. Sustainable living can be a flighty concept for some, and finding a means of entry into the lifestyle can be equally elusive.

My friends, I humbly submit for your consideration, welcoming a feathered, egg-laying friend into your life and your back-yard. They are lovely companions, lay TONS of eggs, and frankly once they’ve outlived their useful production rates, you can dress and eat the damn things. I hope you will think about chickens as a practical and easy way to join the world of sustainable living.

My public service announcement duties fulfilled for the week, please enjoy some newish tunes from a handful of artists that entertain me at the moment. (Snagged a few of these from Idolator… Also, the female-vocalist slant is not specifically intentional, just run with it)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, “Zero”

More after the jump… (continue reading…)

“I am,” she says a few weeks later, a proud smile spreading across her face, “the first person in my family to reach 16 without getting pregnant–or getting somebody pregnant.

I Can Haz Green Environments?

Interesting day on the green front .

The US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit overturned a ban on mountaintop removal mining. Clearly, this is awful.

In a win for the awesome column though, Top Gear has pledged to retrofit a 1981 VW Rabbit to achieve 70 mpg.

I’d totally pick up one of those mutant VWs, btw. My parents had an ‘81 Rabbit, and it was unstoppable.

Snuggie. Pub. Crawl.

I’m signing up for the DC event, in hopes that they will let me assist in planning. This is absurdly fantastic.

Per Uncrate:

Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection

Forget that itch you’ve had to grab an old Sega and relive past gaming glory — all you need is Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection ($30). Filled with more than 40 Genesis classics, including five Sonic games, Streets of Rage, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, and more, all updated to run in 720p, it’s the easiest way to satisfy your Sega-based retro-gaming cravings.

Good thing I haven’t started the Fire Academy yet. I’d probably flunk out if I had this laying around.

99 Problems but HuffPo ain’t One

by Carl on Jan.29, 2009, under Etc

So my snippet of Jay-Z’s 99 Problems but a Bush ain’t One performance at the Obama Staff Ball wound up being twittered by Huffington Post. That’s pretty neat – wish I’d been paying closer attention to my traffic last week.
